BOSTON — Ben Flanagan broke one of Canada's oldest records running on Sunday.
A 27-year-old boy from Kitchener, Ontario, ran 28 minutes and 11 seconds to break the national 10km road record at the BAA10K competition. The previous record was 28.17, set by Paul McCloy in 1987.
Two-time defending Canadian 10K champion Flanagan finished fifth in the race. Leonardo Kiplimo defeated 28.00, with Kenyans Kenny Kimtai and Philemon Kiplimo in second and third place, respectively.
American Kirada Mart won the women's race on 31.17.
