TORONTO — Canada's Marina Stakcic failed to qualify for the National Bank Open.

The 17-year-old, from Mississauga, Ontario, beat Tereza of the Czech Republic to Martinkova in the second round of a qualifying tournament for a WTA event. Lost by 1.

Stakusic hoped to become her sixth Canadian to play in the main draw of the tournament, which starts Monday.

There are her eight qualifying spots available at her complex at Soby's Stadium in Toronto on Sunday.

Leila Fernandez of Raval, Queensland is the highest ranked Canadian in the draw at number 13.

Former Mississauga champion Bianca Andreescu, Vancouver's Rebecca Marino, Richmond Hill, Ontario's Carol Chao, and Toronto's Katherine Seboff have already qualified for the main draw of the women's tournament.
