MONTREAL — Canadian junior star Jaden Weeks lost Saturday's National Bank Open qualifier to Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-4 by decision.
The 17-year-old Weeks from Montreal said on the show court at the IGA stadium that he sometimes pushed aside the 79th-ranked German, and in the end he fell in 1 hour and 27 minutes.
Currently ranked 21st in the ITF junior rankings, Weeks said he was one of six Canadians in the 28-man qualifying draw for his event on the ATP Tour. he was one
Italy's Fabio Fognini beat Toronto's Kelsey Stevenson 6-3, 6-1.
Later on Saturday, Toronto's Stephen Dees was due to face Australia's Alexei Popillin, while Montreal's Gabriel Diallo was due to face Australia's James He Duckworth.
Liam Draxl of Newmarket, Ontario will play Daniel Taro of Japan, while Juan Carlos Aguilar of Montreal will play Arthur Rinderknech of France.
The first round of the main draw begins on Monday. Play continues until August 14th. A $6.57 million tournament.
