Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman unlikely to play vs. Eagles

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman’s availability to play in Super Bowl LVII is trending in the wrong direction, coach Andy Reid announced Thursday.

Hardman initially sustained a pelvis injury during the Chiefs’ 20-17 overtime victory versus the Tennessee Titans on Nov. 6. He returned from a lengthy layoff on Sunday before aggravating the injury in Kansas City’s 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.

“I doubt that he’ll make the Super Bowl. He was not going to be denied the other day. That’s a tribute to the kid. He (pushes) himself like no other. He’s a tough, tough kid,” Reid said.

Hardman, fellow wideouts JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Kadarius Toney (ankle), and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (concussion) were not expected to practice on Thursday, per Reid. The coach, however, did share optimistic outlooks for Smith-Schuster and Toney, even going so far as to say Thursday that the former is in “in a good place” for the Super Bowl.

As for Jalen Hurts, the Eagles quarterback said Thursday that his ailing shoulder continues to progress with each passing day.

“I’m getting there. I’ve made it clear this whole time it’s something I’m dealing with,” Hurts said.

Also on Thursday, the Eagles opened the 21-day practice window for Arryn Siposs. The right-footed punter was placed on injured reserve after injuring his ankle on his plant leg during Philadelphia’s 35-10 victory over Tennessee on Dec. 11.

Siposs, 30, averaged 45.6 yards per punt in 13 games this season.
