Quebec Chief Coroner Pascale Descary said last week that Montreal and ordered a public inquiry into three random shootings and the deaths of suspects in the murders in Laval.
The 26-year-old suspect, Abdullah Sheikh, said in March that a psychiatrist was a ``significant risk to public safety''. The 'examen des troubles mentaux decided that despite the assessment, Sheikh could continue life outside the hospital. The court's decision was made as part of a criminal case in November 2018 that found Sheikh not criminally liable for his actions. He had been charged with mischief after acting strangely at the Dorval and Mirabel airports.
"At public hearings, interested persons can voice themselves regarding these circumstances of death in order to analyze all the factors. The aim is to suggest possible solutions to help you,' Descary said in a statement on Monday.
Sheikh, who was being pursued as a suspect in the deaths of André Lemieux, Mohammed Berhaj and Alex Levy-Clevier, was killed by police at a motel in the Saint Laurent district on Thursday. The three victims were killed within 24 hours, beginning with Lemieux's death near his apartment in the Saint-Laurent arrondissement on the night of August 2nd. Killed the next night at Laval.
Deskary named Gehane Kamel as the coroner to preside over the interrogation, saying Sheikh's death at the hands of police would be part of it.
Three murders. is being investigated by the Sûreté du Québec, and Sheikh's death is being investigated by the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes.
