ST-MALACHIE — A 55-year-old woman died Sunday after her car went off the road in St-Malachie in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
Around 12:30 p.m., the woman lost control of her vehicle for an unknown reason, the Sûreté du Québec said. Her car crossed the opposite lane, struck a tree and rolled over.
The resident of nearby Ste-Claire was transported to a hospital, where she was declared dead.
Route 277 was closed as investigators sought to determine the circumstances of the crash.
“Might it have been a distraction, a sickness or the possible presence of an animal on the road,” asked SQ spokesperson Daniel Thibodeau. “Those are all things we must verify.”
The woman’s vehicle will be inspected to see if a mechanical fault contributed to her loss of control.
