Russia's main weapons laboratory has revamped its testing facilities after being shut down following the collapse of the Soviet Union, state news agency TASS reported Wednesday, citing the company's press service.

TsNIITochMash, which researches and designs anti-tank missiles, rifles and other weapons for the Russian military, told TASS that its converted laboratories could develop ballistic weapons and small-caliber artillery in extreme cold. Said it could be tested.

Russia has been keen to highlight its weapons capabilities since it invaded Ukraine on 24 February, with President Vladimir Putin saying that Russia's military technology is "many years ahead of its rivals." also claims to be making progress.

At the opening of an arms exhibition on Monday, Putin said Russia was ready to sell advanced weapons to allies and cooperate with other countries in developing military technology.

Russia is second only to the United States in arms sales, selling about $15 billion a year, nearly one-fifth of the world's export market. (Reported by Reuters)
