Peterborough Historian and Canoeist Family Donate $250,000 to New Canadian Canoe Museum

The late Sierra Grant's passion for canoeing contributed $250,000 to a capital campaign to build a new Canadian Canoe Museum inPeterboroughcontinue to live after on.

Construction continues on Ashburnham Drive's new museum, which is set to open in 2023 and will showcase over 600 canoes, kayaks and artifacts. The gift from Grant's family will be recognized in the new museum loft, a central community gathering space on her second floor just outside the Knowledge and Research Center in the atrium, according to the museum.

According to the museum, Grant is an internationally acclaimed Arctic expert, historian, and author ofArctic Justice: Murder. The Trial of Pond Inlet, 1923 and The Polar Order: A History of Arctic Sovereignty in North America.

She and her husband John We paddled many rivers in northern Canada together. Former Chairman and CEO of the Quaker Oats Company of Canada, John serves on the museum's board of directors.
