Crews launched a “fast attack” and were able to keep flames from spreading to the rest of the home. The fire was out just after 1 a.m. Victim services were requested to help the occupants, the fire department added.

At 4:49 a.m., a 911 call summoned firefighters to a home on Yorks Corners Road, east of Metcalfe, where a rear enclosed porch was on fire. After the occupants were warned to get out, firefighters arrived to find the fire had extended to the back and roof of the house. However, crews had the fire under control by 7:07 a.m. and treated the family pet, which had been rescued from the fire.

Victim services were called and the Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army would both be assisting the people affected, the fire department said.

Investigators were dispatched to determine the cause of both fires.
