Paris — In an interview with AFP, French President Emmanuel Macron urged Prime Minister Elizabeth Borne to propose a new “government of action” to be appointed in early July.

Macron also confirmed his confidence in Born in the long run, AFP said in a Twitter post.

The president rejected Bourne's offer to resign on Tuesday. This was triggered by a severe defeat in an election that lost an absolute majority in Congress last week.

Under pressure to make a compromise, Macron sought to reach out to his political opponents and asked the fragmented parliament to come up with ideas for legislation. (Report by Mimosa Spencer, edited by Peter Graff and Daniel Wallis)
