That’s a spike rarely seen in a one-day period.
Gas guru Dan McTeague has warned that the price of a litre of gas in the GTA and most of southern Ontario will leap from just under $1.53 to nearly $1.63.
He took to social media to ensure everyone gets the message, tweeting:
“Although gas prices won’t change Tuesday, they are set to RISE 10 cents to 162.9 for Toronto, GTA, Ottawa, Kitchener, Hamilton, London, Ont., Windsor, Barrie, Niagara, Kingston, Sudbury & most of Ontario. Montreal too, up 10 cts to 176.9”
Over at his website, gaswizard.ca, McTeague lists prices in cities all over Canada and actually shows in Ontario that Barrie, Peterborough and London are a little cheaper as of Wednesday at $1.61 a litre.
It’s tough to take, but southern Ontario is still not in the same hyperventilating category as Vancouver, which hit about $2.42 per litre at the end of last week. Even now, a litre of gas there is predicted to cost $2.36 on Wednesday.
Ouch.
Victoria is not far behind, coming in just under $2.30 a litre.
Quebec City, like Montreal, is high at $1.74 a litre and ditto Regina and Saskatoon at $1.76 a litre.
Even though the 10 cent rise expected Wednesday represents one of the biggest one-day upticks in the last 10 years, Ontario still has the lowest prices in the country, according to McTeague’s calculations.
