A highway maintenance worker was seriously injured after an SUV hit him west of Edmonton

The RCMP is investigating after a highway maintenance worker was hit by a Jeep SUV Monday night while clearing debris west of Edmonton.

"An employee was seriously injured and taken to hospital," the Parkland RCMP said in a news release issued on Tuesday.

"The driver of the vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash."

Police said the worker is an employee of Emcon Services He is a 62 year old male. A man driving an SUV ran over a worker on Route 16A near Route 60 at approximately 7:15 pm.

If you see a hazard lamp, slow down, move to the side and drive carefully," police said.
