A Burnaby man who was badly injured, apparently at an abandoned Vancouver property, back in November has died in hospital, sparking a homicide investigation.

Kevin Liew, 30, was found near Burnaby Hospital on Nov. 17. “Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital, where he died Monday,” said VPD spokeswoman Const. Tania Visintin in a release on Wednesday.

Investigators have released a security image of the victim three days before the offence that ultimately took his life “with hopes someone will have information that could help solve the case.”

The investigation has led police to an abandoned home near 8th Avenue and Renfrew Street in east Vancouver, where police believe an offence occurred. Officers have been working in the area for several days collecting evidence.

“Police do not believe this was a random crime, and do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public,” said Visintin.

No charges have been laid.

The security photo shows Liew on Nov. 14 at a SkyTrain station in Burnaby. Anyone with information is asked to call Vancouver police at 604-717-2500.
