Rescue of Kelowna dogs selling blueberry bushes in fundraising

Kelowna ’s Paws it Forward Dog Rescue's creative fundraising will sweeten the summer.

Nonprofits received over 500 blueberry bushes as donations and turned their luck into fundraising.

"Now we have a great opportunity to sell blueberry bushes and direct 100% of everything we grow to animals," said PawsItForward's funding coordinator. One Leanne Poon said.

Over 500 blueberry bushes are on sale, each for only $ 12 or two for $ 20. But there are pitfalls. If you don't already own a blueberry bush, you'll need to buy two.

"They need each other to pollinate," Poon said.

It's all for good reason. Paws it Forward relies on donations to continue to support abandoned or surrendered dogs, and this year was already a busy year.

"Currently there are over 43 animals. We have more than 200 dogs that are taking care of us looking for a home and already this year," Poon said.

"Sadly increased because of the COVID dogs acquired during COVID. They are surrendering to us because they can't take care of them, of those returning to the office. Anxiety issues, it's a variety of different situations. "
