One person was arrested and charged with aggravated assault Wednesday afternoon in connection to an incident behind the Integrated Care Hub in the early morning hours that saw two people sent to hospital.

Police were initially called to the K&P Trail behind the hub, located at 661 Montreal St., at about 4:15 a.m. to assist paramedic crews. When officers arrived, they found two people had suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said their preliminary investigation showed the first two individuals “became involved in a physical altercation with a third individual while walking on the trail system.” The third individual was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators believe a weapon was used during the altercation but are unsure what kind yet.

One of the individuals taken to hospital was released a short time later, while the other remained for some time for treatment.

“Police do not believe this assault was targeted at any specific group of individuals, and advise there is no risk to public safety,” police said.

“Security camera footage captured in the area indicates that this incident was observed by several individuals. Police are asking any individuals who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.”
