Lac-Saint-Jean man charged with making online threat against Quebec premier

Sylvain Proulx, a 65-year-old resident of the Lac-Saint-Jean region, is expected to appear in court in Roberval in November to face a charge of making an online threat against Premier François Legault.

According to the charge sheet, the threat “to cause the death or physical injuries” was made on Sept. 5.

On Sept. 8,  Sûreté du Québec communications director Guy Lapointe said the provincial force had interviewed two men ages 59 and 65 concerning “threatening words against an elected member of the National Assembly.”

What action, if any, taken against the 59-year-old could not be confirmed.

“These sorts of posts are always taken seriously, no matter what their intention,” Lapointe wrote in Twitter on Sept. 7. “Even if you’re behind a social media profile, there will be consequences.”
