Dozens of massive fires in downtown Vancouver destroyed churches and hotels

More than 40 firefighters responded to a massive fire that destroyed two buildings on Wednesday night in Vancouver'sDowntown Eastside.

"The crew has arrived at a large amount of smoke from an abandoned building or perhaps a building under renovation," said Karen Frey, chief of the Vancouver Fire Department.

"Our crew did a great job of preventing the fire from spreading to the single-room hotel next door. Those people evacuated from the building."
