More than 40 firefighters responded to a massive fire that destroyed two buildings on Wednesday night in Vancouver'sDowntown Eastside.
"The crew has arrived at a large amount of smoke from an abandoned building or perhaps a building under renovation," said Karen Frey, chief of the Vancouver Fire Department.
"Our crew did a great job of preventing the fire from spreading to the single-room hotel next door. Those people evacuated from the building."

Vancouver Fire Department According to the rescue team, the street church and Balmoral Hotel on Hastings Street and Main Street in Vancouver were destroyed.
The fire is believed to have occurred in the alley behind the building.

"I don't know how it started, but the first sign is that it's behind the building. Makes us believe that it started with, "Fry said.

Authorities said only one person was injured in the fire. The firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated on-site.
