A man has been arrested following what New Westminster Policedescribed as a "gratuitous attack" on officers Monday.
Around noon, a man was roaming the Blow of the Hill district with a hatchet, according to eyewitness reports. A patrol officer responded and tried to talk to him, but the suspect "raised a hatchet in a threatening manner and charged him," police said in a news release on Tuesday. The suspect was reportedly able to fend off the suspect and escaped. Several police officers then contained the area, found him, and took him into custody.
