"He was the glue that kept everyone together. I wish we had more time."
A 28-year-old man was charged Thursday in connection with a fatal stabbing in Mile End.
Theodore Gliga made a brief appearance at the Montreal courthouse where he was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Rance Sullivan and the armed assault of another man. Gliga will remain detained and his case was carried over to Oct. 14.

Sullivan, 27, was stabbed to death on the morning of Sept. 30 on Jeanne-Mance St. near the corner of Bernard St. He was declared dead at the scene. Last week, the Montreal police said the victim died as a result of an altercation between two men. But Gliga was charged with attacking the other man on the same day.
Gliga has been charged with several crimes this year. In June, he was sentenced to serve 70 days in jail as well as three years of probation for stealing a motor vehicle in Montreal.
In another case, he was granted bail in July after he was charged with either aggravated or armed assault. Gliga agreed to make a $500 deposit as bail and to follow a condition that he not possess a weapon while that case was pending.
He also currently faces charges that were filed over the course of this year in three different courthouses across Quebec — including in Gatineau, where he is charged with shoplifting and drug possession, and St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, where he is charged with theft.
In a Go Fund Me page, where friends of Sullivan are seeking $5,000 for a memorial for the homicide victim, he was described as “our best friend. He fought his demons every day, never asked anyone for help but still managed to light up any room he stepped in. He was the glue that kept everyone together. I wish we had more time.”
