Man wanted for assaulting an officer after Lamport fracas

One of the people protesting this week’s clear-out of Lamport Stadium Park’s tent city is now wanted for assaulting an officer.

Police are hoping the public will help identify an individual who allegedly hit an officer in the head with a thrown object.

The officer was treated for injuries.

On Wednesday, July 22, at around 6.20 p.m. police were engaging with a large crowd that had gathered outside 14 Division Police Station following earlier events at Lamport Stadium Park.

According to police reports, the crowd became increasingly hostile and one man threw an object at an officer.

The police station is on Dovercourt Road, about a 20 minute walk from Lamport; according to Constable Laura Brabant, after the confrontation at the encampment there, “A lot of protestors made their way over to 14 Division.”

There is a video of the assault that clearly shows the officer being hit with a flying object in the side of the head. Police are looking for witnesses to this act and would also like to speak to anyone who could identify the man in question.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
