At about 7 p.m., the victim was involved in an altercation with several individuals inside the subway station near Atwater Ave. and de Maisonneuve Blvd. in Westmount, Bergeron said. The sound of a single gunshot was heard.
The group scattered and the suspect left the scene. The victim walked from the station to the Alexis Nihon shopping centre, where he was found by police and paramedics, Bergeron said.
Details about the altercation, including a motive or the identity of the suspect, remain to be determined.
Police investigators will view security tapes inside the métro and surrounding businesses to see if images have been captured that could identify the suspect, Bergeron said.
