“While I regret that she will not be at the cabinet table, I respect her decision and her commitment to her constituents,” Horgan said in a statement.

On Twitter, Mark referred to the premier’s statement and added: “I value my role and remain committed to the constituents of Vancouver-Mount Pleasant. I thank my family and colleagues for their support at this time.”

Mark has been the MLA for Vancouver-Mount Pleasant since 2016.

Lisa Beare, minister of citizen services, will take over her portfolio which includes arts, culture and sport.

Mark, who is Nisga’a, Gitxsan, Cree and Ojibway and the mother of two daughters, is the first Indigenous women to serve as a cabinet minister. Most recently she was working on the province’s role in the 2026 FIFA World Cup bid.
