Indoors: Arooj Aftab(9 pm, Club Soda, $ 34.50). Brooklyn-based Pakistani vocalist Arooj Aftab grew up listening to Nusrat Fate Ali Khan. She rethinks South Asian music on her recent album, Vulture Prince, combining cowwari, jazz, and breathtakingly gloomy soulfulness. Since she is in Montreal, she may be persuaded to play Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah stirring cover.
Outdoors: Big Breasts and Bass(11:00 pm, Club Montreal TD, free). Montreal's party pop band Busty and the Bass has everything from tripped hip-hop to the new EP Karneval's soul ballads and funky houses with the help of Philadelphia / Atlanta rapper STS Mike. They are sure to start the party at this midnight time in their hometown.
The 42nd Montreal InternationalJazzFestivalwill continue until July 9th. For more information on the program, tickets and more, seeMontrealJazzfest.com.
