Cairo — A car accident in southern Egypt killed nine people, including five Sudanese, and injured 43 early Thursday morning, a senior health ministry official said.
Of the injured, 40 were believed to be Sudanese, but identity verification procedures were underway, said Ehab Hanafi, Deputy Minister of Health.
Witnesses told Reuters that the bus came from Sudan and headed for the city of Aswan in southern Egypt.
According to two security sources, the bus went off the road and capsized after colliding with a truck. (Report by Farah Saafan and Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, Written by Aidan Lewis, Edited by Toby Chopra)
