“While we acknowledge the celebration of Valentine’s Day and are mindful of the popularity of that day, it is not celebrated by all students/families in our community,” a letter sent to parents states.
The schools says Valentine’s Day could negatively impact families and students
In 2021, the school banned paper Valentine’s as non-essential materials that could spread disease.

The Waterloo Regional District School Board told CTV that Valentine’s Day could be a “financial strain” on some families who can’t afford candy or cards.
The school believes Valentine’s Day harms equality goals and that having candy goes against the Healthy Schools approach.
