Ottawa woman injured when truck loses tire

A 23-year-old woman from Ottawa was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

An Ottawa woman was injured Sunday morning when a tire came off a tractor-trailer and struck a car on Highway 401 between Brockville and Prescott.

OPP Acting Sgt. Annie Collins said the tractor-trailer was eastbound on the 401 at 10:34 a.m. when its front tire came off, flew across the median and sideswiped a westbound car, three kilometres east of Maitland.

A 23-year-old woman from Ottawa was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said Collins.

Collins added the driver of the truck has been charged with failing to do an inspection and driving an unsafe motor vehicle.
