Patrick Wisdom drove in one run and scored another. The Chicago Cubs scored twice in the 11th inning, and on Tuesday night the Washington Nationals defeated him 7-5.

Wisdom scored Willson Contreras in his 11th with his down double in front of left field against Victor Arano (1-1). Wisdom later scored on Seiya Suzuki's single.

Brandon Hughes (2-1) pitched his first inning to win, and Mark Leiter Jr. recorded his first save on his 11th.

The Cubs took a 5–4 lead in the 10th inning, on a Contreras sacrifice fly, but CJ Abrams scored his Thomas home lane to tie the score.

Franmil Reyes hit a home run and a single, and Nico Hoerner also had his three hits in Chicago.

Luke Voigt and Thomas hit home runs in his eighth inning against Cubs relief pitcher Rowan Wyck in a 4–4 tie.

Chicago starter Justin Steele said he allowed one earned run due to a pitching mistake, although he allowed five hits in six innings. Nationals starter Patrick Corbin, pitching with a 25.41 ERA, has been skipped in the rotation twice in his last three starts after being drawn in the first inning. On Tuesday, he allowed six hits and four runs in six innings, lowering his season ERA to 6.96.

Cesar Hernandez had his three hits and rookie Joey Menezes extended his hitting streak to his ten games.

In the second inning with the Cubs leading 1–0 on him, Reyes and Henner hit singles before Nelson Velázquez hit his double off the left-center wall to score Reyes.

Steele was helped by his two double plays that shorted Washington's rally in the first and he shorted in the second.

In the fourth, Suzuki started with a walk and hit a double to Horner's left field. With two outs, P.J. Higgins lined a single to left center and scored Horner to make it 3–0.

Reyes hit his 2-1 Corbin fastball into right center in the sixth to extend the lead to his 4-0. The Nationals, with Victor Robles taking the lead with a walk and then scoring on Nelson Cruz's sacrifice fly, allowed Washington to score on Il de Maro in the seventh inning. Tie.
