Former Top Comprehensive Pick Mark Appel will receive his first Major League Baseball convocation on Saturday.

Interim manager Rob Thomson said 30-year-old Apel was summoned from Triple A Lee High Valley after right-handed Connor Brogdon was on the COVID-19 injured list. Said on Friday night.

"I'm completely overwhelmed. I have a lot of ideas to share, but I can't find the words, so I say thank you. Thank you," Appel wrote on Twitter on Saturday morning. "Today I can play my favorite game as a major league baseball player."

Appel was 5-0, 19 times in the Lehi Valley this season. He has recorded 5 saves and 1.61 ERA in his participation. He returned to the Phillies organization last year after announcing his departure from sports in 2018 after an injury to his lips and rotator cuff.

The Pittsburgh Pirates chose Appel for the eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft, but returned to Stanford instead. The Astros then chose from Houston in the first round of selection in 2013.

A right-handed professional career got off to a solid start, but changed when he recorded 6.91 ERA at 831 / in 2014. 3 innings were thrown.

After the slump in 2015, Apel was traded to Philadelphia on a contract to bring the Astros closer to Ken Giles. The Phillies organization missed the second half of the 2016 season after the Apel struggle continued and required elbow surgery.
