Former Top Comprehensive Pick Mark Appel will receive his first Major League Baseball convocation on Saturday.
Interim manager Rob Thomson said 30-year-old Apel was summoned from Triple A Lee High Valley after right-handed Connor Brogdon was on the COVID-19 injured list. Said on Friday night.
"I'm completely overwhelmed. I have a lot of ideas to share, but I can't find the words, so I say thank you. Thank you," Appel wrote on Twitter on Saturday morning. "Today I can play my favorite game as a major league baseball player."

The Pittsburgh Pirates chose Appel for the eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft, but returned to Stanford instead. The Astros then chose from Houston in the first round of selection in 2013.
