The sexual assault and child abuse section of the Ottawa Police Service is asking for public assistance in identifying a man accused of physically and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy in the Manor Park area last week.

In a media release issued Wednesday, police said the incident occurred while the teen was walking along Hemlock Road west of St. Laurent Boulevard between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Sept. 20.

According to police, the man approached the victim, said something that didn’t make sense to him, then touched him in a sexual manner. When the youth resisted, the suspect pushed him to the ground. After a brief struggle, the victim freed himself and fled the area, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male in his late teens with a prominent overbite. Police said he was wearing a red jacket, green hat, blue shoes and a white and black striped t-shirt.

Investigators think there could be other victims, the police media release added.

Anyone who has information about the suspect or who has experienced a similar assault was asked to contact the sexual assault and child abuse unit at 613-236-1222 ext 5944.

Those who may see an individual matching the description of the suspect in the area of Manor Park were counselled by police not to approach them, but rather to call 911.
