OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is today in beautiful Quebec of the Magdalen Islands.

Prime Minister Trudeau visited the small archipelago in the Gulf of St. Lawrence for the first time in 20 years, according to Trudeau's office.

His island tours include stops at microbreweries and bakeries.

In French he is known as Les Iles-de-la-Madeleine, the islands, although geographically close to the sea, are part of the province of Quebec.

Of the 12,000 residents, all but a few cite French as their native language, with over 75% speaking only French.

With large white sand beaches and a warmer climate than the mainland, the economies of the islands are heavily dependent on tourism.
