Rider, 58, killed in Lanark County snowmobile crash

A 58-year-old man is dead after the snowmobile he was riding collided with another machine in a group of riders in Lanark County Sunday.

Officers were called to the crash on Ramsey Concession 12 north of Hamilton Side Road at about 5 p.m. Sunday, the Lanark County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police said Monday.

“For reasons still under investigation, a snowmobile travelling at the rear of a group struck another machine,” police said. “Both drivers were thrown from their snowmobiles.”

The driver of the rear snowmobile, a Beckwith Township resident, was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead. The other driver had minor injuries.

Lanark County OPP officers are continuing to investigate with the help of the force’s technical collision investigators and a reconstructionist.
