Stephen Keogh found a perfect time to record his first hat trick with the Toronto Rock.

The veteran, signed as a free agent last summer, grabbed a rebound and beat goaltender Christian Del Bianco 14 seconds into overtime to give the Rock an 11-10 win over the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday.

The Rock had built a six-goal lead at one point of the game, but the Roughnecks scored three times in the final three minutes while Del Bianco was on the bench for an extra attacker. Jesse King scored his second of the game with 17 seconds left to force the extra period.

“It was a great win for us,” Keogh said. “We had some adversity but we just stuck with it and that’s the biggest thing.”

Another off-season free-agent signing, Corey Small, led the Rock attack with four goals, including Toronto’s first two as it built a 7-1 lead midway through the second quarter. Tom Schreiber kept pace with the leading goal-scorers in the NLL with two more goals to give him 21 on the year. Dan Dawson and Dan Craig scored once each.

Tyler Pace scored twice for the Roughnecks, who finished the second quarter with a 4-0 run. Jeff Cornwall, Shane Simpson, Dan Taylor, Josh Currier, Zach Currier, and Haiden Dickson scored one each.

Rock goaltender Nick Rose ended the night with 45 saves for Toronto (5-2).

The Rock returns home next Saturday to face the New York Riptide at First Ontario Centre in Hamilton.
