Moscow — Russia declared that it would not welcome eight Greek diplomats and gave them eight days to leave the country, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

In April Greece urged twelve Russian diplomats to leave the country in response to the Ukrainian war and send defense supplies to Kieu.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has summoned a Greek ambassador and said it protested "the Greek authorities' confrontational course against Russia, including the supply of weapons and military equipment to the Kieu administration."

The ministry also said it protested Greece's decision to declare a group of Russian diplomats "persona non grata."

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday that it regrets Moscow's decision. "There is no basis for the Russian authorities' decision to expel the staff of the Greek Foreign Consulate in Russia," he said in a news release.

Greece is a member of NATO and the European Union and has joined EU sanctions against Russia over its actions in Ukraine. (Report by Reuters, edited by Gareth Jones and Matthew Lewis)
