MOSCOW — The Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday accused Ukraine of planning a “provocation” at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant on Aug. 19, when UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is due to visit, Russia said. state news agency RIA reported.
In a statement, the ministry said there were no Russian heavy weapons at the Russian-controlled nuclear power plant or nearby districts.
The plant has come under repeated attacks in recent weeks, with both Ukraine and Russia blaming each other for the shelling. Ukraine said Russia has deployed artillery in and around the factory. (Reporting edited by Reuters by Raissa Kasorofsky)
