A digital overhaul of the operations of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) began last Thursday and when finished will see many services made available online. The transformation work will require that some services be suspended until Feb. 20.
For example, no vehicle can be licensed before Feb. 20. The service for obtaining a winter tire exemption is suspended, as is that for storing or discarding a vehicle.

Quebecers who want to replace or renew their health insurance card at the SAAQ cannot do so before Feb. 20 and will be obliged to contact the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).
Requests to rescind a vehicle seizure order will not be processed before Feb. 20. If the request cannot wait, applicants must make their request to Quebec Court.
During the purchase of a vehicle, merchants will provide a transaction report that will allow the vehicle to be registered at an SAAQ outlet after Feb. 20. Temporary permits will be issued to allow the vehicle to be used until then.
Many services deemed essential by the SAAQ will be maintained during the transition period, such as the replacement of a lost or stolen driver’s licence, practical driving tests, mechanical inspections as well as technical expertise.
The SAAQ says that as of Feb. 20, the digital overhaul will result in the availability of new and improved services online. Until then, the process of converting more than 10 billion pieces of data continues but SAAQ outlets remain open.
