SQUAMISH, B.C. — This month, B.C. Squamish pregnant women may be diverted to other medical facilities in the area.

Vancouver Coastal Health has released a news release that patients giving birth in early July can be sent to Lions Gate Hospital, Richmond Hospital, St. Paul's Hospital, or B.C. Women's hospital with appropriate maternity care.

Health officials say the referral process will be as seamless as possible by helping local emergency operations centers move patients to other facilities.

We apologize for the confusion, understanding that decisions can raise concerns.

According to the authorities, this move is temporary and we are working to address service gaps such as the current staff shortage.

Such measures include targeted recruitment and, if necessary, redesigning the staffing model.
