Vancouver police are searching for a man accused of attacking two strangers with a machete after he was granted bail and immediately breached the conditions of his release.

Kenneth Stephen Solowan, 37, is facing two charges of aggravated assault for an unprovoked attack on two people who were loading their luggage into a taxi on June 19 near the Empress Hotel in the Downtown Eastside.

He is now wanted B.C.-wide after disappearing last week from a residential treatment facility in Surrey where he had been ordered to live while out on bail.

Solowan was arrested by police in Vancouver on Aug. 10 and was in custody until Sept. 29 when he was granted bail in the courts and promptly vanished. Though his whereabouts are unknown, police say he has been known to spend time around Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside.

He is about five-foot-nine, 180 pounds, with grey hair and brown eyes. Anyone who sees Solowan is asked to call 911 right away and not approach him.
