Emil Andrae equalized midway through the third period as Sweden edged Latvia 2-1 on Wednesday to advance to the world junior hockey semifinals.
Isak Rosen opened the scoring for Sweden with his play power in the first period . Gustavs Ozolins equalized late in the second period. Jesper Wallstedt notched his 12 saves for Sweden.

In the first quarter-finals, Finland beat Germany 5-2. In the evening session, Canada faced Switzerland while defending his champions USA faced the Czech Republic.

Robbie Venti, who will face Switzerland in the World Junior Quarterfinals, scored his two goals and Recorded 2 assists. Kasper Simontaival and Joel Maatta scored one goal and one assist respectively, and Finland scored his four goals on power play.
Roni Hirvonen also scored and Livi Melilainen made 19 saves Bennett Rossmey scored two power play goals for Germany.
