Temporary shelter opened in Keremeos for those displaced by wildfires

A temporary Emergency Support Service Reception Center has been opened in Keremeos in response to the Keremeos Creek wildfires.

The Okanagan Similkameen Regional District (RDOS) has partnered with the village of Keremeos to open a center at Keremeos Victory Hall.

"The Keremeos Reception Center will be open until 5pm on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Monday opening hours for the Keremeos Reception Center have not been established at this time," said RDOS. Read press releases.

Current evacuation orders and warnings remain unchanged, according to RDOS.

In RDOS constituencies G and I, and the village of Keremeos, 547 facilities are under evacuation orders and an additional 1,050 facilities are on alert.

Evacuation Alert, You must prepare to leave immediately. Please monitor his website and social media channels for the BC Wildfire Service and RDOS to maintain situational awareness," he read the RDOS release.

If you receive an evacuation alert or order, or are evacuated from your home due to an emergency, RDOS will ask you to self-register with Emergency Support Services.

A reception center has been set up at Princess Margaret Secondary in Penticton for those who need immediate assistance.

The Penticton Center will be closed on Sundays but will reopen on Monday, August 8th from 9am to 5pm.
