When the first responding vehicle arrived, it was established that only staff members were in the building, and that several of them were experiencing symptoms that included dizziness, vomiting and confusion.
Hazmat technicians used a refrigerant gas detector, a photo ionization detector and multi-gas detectors to determine the problem. There were moderate to high Freon levels in various locations in the restaurant, the fire service said in a news release, and it was found that a small, damaged bar fridge was the source.
Paramedics treated three adults — a male and two females in their 20s — at the scene. All three were experiencing only mild symptoms.
The restaurant general manager was told the business would be closed until the issue was resolved, the fire service said.
