When the Chase RCMP police arrived, the rescuers had already determined that all crew members of both vehicles had died
A head-on collision occurred on the Trans Canada Highway near Sorrento on Tuesday afternoon, killing three people.
First responders crashed about an hour's drive east of Kamloops at about 1 pm on 400 blocks of highway 1 near Shuswap Lake.
When the Chase RCMP police arrived, the rescuers had already determined that all crew members of both vehicles had died.
Witnesses reported seeing a black sedan heading east on the freeway turning into the opposite lane and hitting an SUV heading west.
A 51-year-old man from Sorrento and a 67-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man from Blind Bay were killed.
"Our thoughts are in all those affected by this horrific tragedy," said Chase RCMP Commander Sgt. Barry Kennedy in the statement.
Chase RCMP, B.C. Highway patrol and B.C. coroner services are under investigation.
