A head-on collision occurred on the Trans Canada Highway near Sorrento on Tuesday afternoon, killing three people.

First responders crashed about an hour's drive east of Kamloops at about 1 pm on 400 blocks of highway 1 near Shuswap Lake.

Witnesses reported seeing a black sedan heading east on the freeway turning into the opposite lane and hitting an SUV heading west.

A 51-year-old man from Sorrento and a 67-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man from Blind Bay were killed.

"Our thoughts are in all those affected by this horrific tragedy," said Chase RCMP Commander Sgt. Barry Kennedy in the statement.
