Two bodies recovered from trench collapse at Ajax construction site

The bodies of two men were recovered from a construction site in Ajax where trenches collapsed Monday afternoon.

Large ditch at location near Rossland and Westney Rds. It caved in around noon, burying two workers and injuring another two of his men.

One of his wounded was airlifted to a hospital in Toronto and another one of him was taken to a local hospital in the Durham area for a broken ankle.

Firefighters and crews worked through the night to retrieve the buried man using heavy excavating equipment.

Durham Local Police confirmed that the bodies of his two missing workers were recovered around 2:30 am on Tuesday.

The Ontario Department of Labor said it was investigating the cause of the collapse.
