According to Unifor, Lana Payne is Canada's largest civilian
Formerly Unifor's Secretary of State and Treasurer, Payne was elected as the new president of the department's union, becoming the first woman to hold the position. He beat out Scott Doherty and Unifor Local 444 president Dave Cassidy.
Payne also served as Unifor's Atlantic Regional Director and President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Trade Unions.
Party leader's vote sees former National President Jerry Diaz step down in his March and later indicted for violating union charter's code of ethics and democratic practices was done later.
Díaz has long been the face of Unifor, leading the union since 2013, 2016 and he was re-elected in 2019.
With more than 315,000 members, Unifor represents workers in a wide range of industries, including: manufacturing, aviation, forestry, energy and telecommunications.
