More than 600 seniors and veterans live on Perley Health's care campuses.
Ottawa police responded after numerous weapons and ammunition were found. are conducting an investigation. Friday at two separate residences on Perley Health's Russell Road campus.
In a statement released late Friday night, Perley Health said weapons were found in one of his long-term care units and an apartment that had been vacant for weeks. Stated. A resident has been hospitalized.
Perley Health operates the largest long-term care facility in the region, along with apartment residences for seniors and veterans at its Russell Road campus.
Three handguns and two of his knives were found in the long-term care unit, according to a statement. Perley Health staff later found him 14 handguns and a rifle in an unlocked cabinet, in addition to numerous ammunition, other firearms paraphernalia and knives. A locked gun cabinet was also found in an empty apartment. Staff found the weapon during a security check.
Staff secured the location and contacted Ottawa Police, who are leading the investigation.
"The safety of her entire community is a top priority at Pearly Health and we are reviewing all policies related to the possession and storage of weapons on site," said the center's director of communications. Jainness said in a statement.
Care Campus has more than 600 seniors and veterans living in independent apartments or in long-term care.
