Woman found dead in Vaughan house fire murdered

A woman found dead in a Vaughan house fire Friday night is believed to have been murdered.

York Regional Police say they were called to assist Vaughan Fire and Rescue Services with a structure fire in the area of Parktree Dr. and Lucena Cr. – near Jane St. and Rutherford Rd. — around 7:45 p.m.

“When officers arrived on scene they located an unresponsive female victim inside the residence,” Const. Amy Boudreau said in a statement released late Friday. “The victim was transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.”

“There is no threat to public safety and the investigation is ongoing,” she added.

Homicide detectives have taken over the case.

“Investigators are appealing to anyone with information to please come forward, including witnesses or anyone with video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area,” Boudreau said.
