Controversial ex drugs squad head Katsounotos back to work, but at the Port Police

Former drugs squad head Michalis Katsounotos who allegedly colluded with a drug baron serving life in prison to obtain private video footage of the island’s prison director on Tuesday went back to work.

After a three-month suspension plus annual leave he was entitled to, the once high-profile police officer is now serving with the Port and Marine Police, Philenews reports.

He was transferred there after the report by the independent criminal investigator, Achilleas Emilianides was handed to the Attorney General’s Office in mid-September.

The report related to allegations and counter-allegations between the central prisons director and Katsounotos. The report is still under review by the Attorney General.

In a statement issued by his lawyer the day the report was handed over Katsounotos said he had kept a low profile throughout, despite a barrage of “mudslinging” designed to tarnish his good name.
