Third-age Scandinavians targeted for winter tourism

Famagusta region’s key tourism players are focusing on efforts to attract as many winter visitors this year as possible – mainly third-age individuals from Scandinavian countries.

This is what Philenews reported on Wednesday adding that this age group takes trips at the end of autumn and in the winter and they go to countries with a warmer climate.

In the past, many elderly Scandinavians used to visit  Ayia Napa in the winter when more hotels remained open but this market has been on the decline in recent years.

And it is even worse this year because of the loss of the Russian market.

So, efforts now have intensified to regain it with the

Tourism Development and Promotion Agency of Famagusta making its presence at a third-age tourism exhibition which starts on Wednesday in Stockholm.

The Agency’s Lakis Avraamidis, who is in Sweden, told Philenews there will be a presentation of the advantages of Famagusta area as well as planned activities during the winter months.

The purpose is to make Cyprus one of the first choices for the elderly from Nordic countries.
