Ahmed Kendouci 'wanted' for Rangers transfer as Ibrox club target initial loan for Algerian star

Rangers are in early discussions over a move for Algerian star Ahmed Kendouci, although the Ibrox club would prefer an initial loan for the 23-year-old playmaker.

Michael Beale is assessing the Light Blues squad he inherited from Giovanni van Bronckhorst but will look to strengthen when the transfer window opens next month. And Football Scotland reports that “initial contact” has been made with Kendouci’s representative who plays for ES Setif in his homeland. He is regarded as one of the most promising talents in his homeland and is top scorer in Algeria’s Ligue 1 this season with eight goals in 12 games for the team currently sitting second in the top flight.

It was claimed in Africa media that Rangers were interested along with Egyptian giants Al Ahly while an unnamed Croatian side have also been linked. Kendouci can play anywhere in midfield and has been used on the left for his club while he has one international cap to his name. The report states that Rangers would prefer an initial loan but his club are looking to sell, with a low seven-figure fee suggested in Algeria. Discussions are said to be at an early stage but Beale has been told funds will be available if he wants to add to the squad next month.

Ross Wilson came under fire at the club’s AGM over his recruitment record and the sporting director will be hoping to bring in quality additions to ease some of the flak flying in his direction.
