Anger over school run mums and dads who keep parking on people’s drives

A group of locals are up in arms because school-run mums and dads are parking on their road to avoid a £70 parking fine.

People living on Sneyd Street, in Stoke-on-Trent, say double-red lines painted at nearby Sneyd Academy are encouraging the rule-breaking parents to park on their road to avoid the charge.

The lines ban drivers from parking near the school between 8.30am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 3.30pm Monday to Friday, and anyone caught is issued a £70 fine.

Residents also say the council has not installed cameras on the street to catch the fine dodgers.

Gerald Johnson, who lives on the street, told the Stoke Sentinel: ‘It has been a complete and utter waste of money. They came and burnt the yellow lines off to put the red lines down and people just treat them as yellow lines.’

Sophie Cope, of nearby Hazelwood Close, said: ‘You get idiots blocking the street or parking in other people’s drives – and there’s nothing you can do about that. People have got to have somewhere to park to access the school because there is nowhere.’

According to another local, Trevor Roden, there is a camera sign at the top of the street but no camera has been installed.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Stoke-on-Trent City Council for comment.

Parked cars blocking roads and driveways has also been a problem in Truro, Cornwall, this year.

Students at a local college have been blocking residents in and telling them to ‘f**k off’ when confronted.

The council are now in discussions to introduce parking restrictions on the road, subject to a public consultation.
