Aston Villa set to fail in audacious Marco Asensio transfer with boss Unai Emery missing out to his former club

snubbed

ASTON VILLA'S Unai Emery appears to have lost out on his bid to land Marco Asensio - to his former club Paris Saint Germain.

Asensio is expected to leave Real Madrid this summer, with multiple top clubs circling.

The three-time Champions League winner has only started 15 La Liga matches this season and appears to be out of favour with Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti.

But the 27-year-old has still managed to score nine goals alongside six assists in all competitions this term.

Emery had ambitiously made a strong case to the Spanish international and his representatives.

However, reports in Spain claim that Asensio appears to have snubbed Villa's advances.

According to AS, the 27-year-old is instead set to become a PSG player upon the expiration of his contract this summer.

The report suggests that Asensio is close to agreeing a five-year-deal with the Parisians, ahead of his farewell appearance at the Bernabeu this Sunday.

The attraction of Champions League football proved more attractive to the Spanish international than playing in the Europa Conference League with Villa.

Emery's side have qualified for European football for the first time since 2010 after finishing seventh in the Premier League.

But the Villains still have some work to do to ensure they'll be playing on more than a few Thursday nights next season.

The forward will want to play regularly next season with Euro 2024 next summer.

With Lionel Messi and Neymar set to leave PSG this summer, he can fit in as a worthy replacement.

Asensio has scored 61 goals and provided 32 assists in 285 appearances for Madrid.
